Expert Weight Loss Through Lifestyle, Medication, or Minimally Invasive Bariatric Surgery

Endoscopic Sleeve Gastroplasty
(ESG) in Atlanta, GA

Lose Weight Without Surgery, Scars, or Long Recovery

Endoscopic Sleeve Gastroplasty — or ESG — is a non-surgical weight loss procedure that helps you lose 15 to 20% of your body weight without a single incision. At Oneka Bariatrics in Atlanta, our team reshapes your stomach from the inside using internal stitches. No cuts. No scars. Most patients go home the same day and are back to work in 2 to 3 days.

If diet and exercise haven’t worked and you’re not ready for traditional weight loss surgery, ESG may be the right fit.

Who is ESG for?

ESG is a newer, less invasive alternative to gastric sleeve surgery. Instead of removing part of your stomach, your doctor passes a thin, flexible tube (an endoscope) through your mouth and places a row of stitches along the inside of your stomach. Those stitches fold the stomach into a smaller, sleeve-shaped pouch.

The result: you feel full faster, eat less, and lose weight.

The procedure takes about an hour, is done under sedation, and requires no hospital stay.

Frequently Asked Questions About ESG

How long is recovery after ESG?

Most patients are back to normal in 2 to 3 days. You may feel mild nausea, cramping, or a sore throat for a short time.

Will I have scars from ESG?

No. ESG is done entirely through your mouth, so there are no incisions and no visible scars.

How much weight will I lose?

On average, patients lose 15 to 20% of their body weight in the first year. Long-term results depend on sticking with healthy habits — and we’ll help.

How is ESG different from gastric sleeve surgery?

Gastric sleeve surgery removes about 80% of your stomach through small abdominal incisions. ESG uses internal stitches to reshape your stomach — nothing is removed, and it’s reversible.

Is ESG covered by insurance?

No. It’s a self-pay procedure, but we offer transparent pricing and financing.

How long does the procedure take?

About 60 to 90 minutes, under sedation, on an outpatient basis.

Is ESG permanent?

The stitches are long-lasting, but because no tissue is removed, ESG can be reversed if ever medically needed.

Who shouldn't get ESG?

ESG isn’t recommended for people with certain stomach conditions, prior stomach surgery, or anyone not ready to commit to lifestyle changes. A consultation will give you a clear answer.
